Judge Malcolm

Judge Malcolm was appointed as District Magistrate Judge in the 21st Judicial District in January 2007. Judge Malcolm has a mixed docket consisting of felony preliminary hearings, traffic, juvenile offender/child in need of care and domestic cases and limited actions. A graduate of Wichita State University and Washburn University School of Law, Judge Malcolm engaged in the private practice of law for 28 years, and while in private practice, acted as Clay County Attorney from 1979 to 1983. Judge Malcolm also served as a public defender in north central Kansas prior to being appointed to the bench.

Judge Malcolm is a former member of the Clay Center Lions Club and Clay Center Chamber of Commerce, is active in the community theater and has coached little league baseball and basketball in Clay Center.

Judge Malcolm lists his greatest strengths as his ability to be fair and impartial and to communicate with all types of people. He acknowledges the difficulty in staying on top of search and seizure issues in criminal cases. His professional goals are to improve his judicial skills and become active in the District Magistrate Judges Association.
